I found this sad and disturbing. We as human beings have become so isolated, that many of our social interactions are in chat rooms and blogs. Our entertainment consists of video games, movies, and iPods.
What happened to the need for human touch? A doll can’t Peace.give you a hug, an unexpected passionate kiss and a pat on the back for a job well done. There have been studies about people and the lack of human contact, and the results on their physical, mental ,and emotional well being were not good.
I understand that these dolls make these guys happy, and I appreciate that. But humanity is complex, and living is about discovery. We lose pieces of our humanity the more we close ourselves off from that which we don’t understand. In these guy’s cases, it’s relationships and they’re inablilty to let go of of their past. Thanks for posting this so I could try to understand them a little better.

I agree that it’s sad, but I’m not entirely sure we can blame modern culture for that. We’re not that far past arranged marriages and polygamist arrangements that left many men single. Our old solution seemed to be to send young men to war. Now we build them plastic dolls. Are we really that much worse off?
